Central Spine Road: Package 5, Seksyen 5D (Bentong Bypass)

  • Client: Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR)
  • Location: Bentong, Pahang, Malaysia
  • Year: 2022

01. The Challenge :

Lingkaran Tengah Utama Expressway, also known as Central Spine Road (CSR), is one of the most significant infrastructure project in Peninsula Malaysia. When completed, it connects Kelantan to Seremban (without going through Kuala Lumpur), significantly reducing travel time between the north & south regions. The project is set out in various sections, which requires bridges to ensure effective connectivity between various regions.

These infrastructure will be used by countless road users. Hence, an anti-carbonation protective coating system was specified to be applied over all the concrete bridges to protect them against attack from environmental contaminants & to ensure the structure’s durability.

02. Proposed Solution :

Dritech proposed two different protective coating systems for the bridges in Central Spine Road Package 5, Seksyen 5D: Bentong Bypass. For the superstructures (e.g. deck soffit, beam/girder, R.C. diaphragms, capping beams, parapet, etc.), a dual protective system formed by 1 – 2 coats of Dri-Gard CP 700, silane-siloxane based primer, followed by 2 coats of Dri-Gard CF 900, solvent-based methacrylate (MMA) pigmented coating was proposed. For the abutment and piers, 2 coats of Dri-Gard TZ 300, solvent-free epoxy resin coating, was proposed. These protective coating systems are compliant with JKR standards and requirements (as below).

03. Final Outcome :

The application of Dri-Gard protective coating systems not only increases the aesthetical value of the concrete infrastructure, it also enhances the lifespan of concrete structures by protecting it against various environmental contaminants.
